Why Making Money Online Is A Game-Changer
End up with a bunch of potential customers
In Feb 2024, I started my journey of making money online. I was a rookie. I spent more time reading about how to write so people will read, how to make money by writing online, what to sell online, and What digital products I can sell. I can’t deny the fact that I gathered quite a good amount of information. All the information is legitimate because I learned it from fellow writers. Yes, I chose writing as my medium for making money online. But I didn’t stop with writing, I did more than that.
Writing is an essential skill to make money online. The truth is that you don’t have to be a writing expert. All you have to do is just to start writing. The hard reality about writing is slow money. The more and more you write, the more you get burned and lose motivation when there is less traction of money. This is what happened to me.
That’s why I didn’t stop at writing. I tried how to develop other skills to make money online. That’s when I discovered Notion. I moved towards making notion templates. I wrote a couple of articles in Medium about my notion templates. I give my Medium writing tracker for free.
As with every platform, Notion is also crowded. I wondered how am I going to sustain creating templates there. Still, I continued to create templates and listed them on Gumroad shop. With zero marketing for my products, I earned this much. Actually, I earned more than this too.
This app is perfectly designed in a way that you could actually love using databases. Instead of focusing on generating income, I focused on how to show my personality. As a result, one of my templates got featured on Notion
That’s the beginning of a game-changing moment.
I created a template for the sticky notes type of use case. It’s a free template. I added my writer personality there (remember, I’m a writer). I added my quotes,
“To buy healthy, be healthy”
”Live With A Wish List” and a few more. At Notion, Every week, the editorial team selects 6 templates to feature. On that one week, my sticky notes template was featured. From that day onwards, my template has been downloaded every day.
Can you guess how many customer Email addresses I have now?
At least 250 unique customers are on the list now. And the best part is that you can even download the email list from Gumroad and use it. Hereafter, I do not have to wonder how to sell my templates, ebooks or other digital products online. I can always start with this list.
On average, My featured template gets downloaded at least by 5 people every day
I’m so glad that I designed that template and sold it for free. When you let people see your best work for free, they stay with you for the long term. One day, They will be ready to pay you too.
You will never know when your post will go viral when you will get featured, or when your article gets boosted. So Always, Try to provide value to others, have a helping mindset and eventually people will come to you.
